Description

It’s hard to believe there is a musician anywhere on this earth that could mix great jazz chops with a soulful outlook and a worldly attitude and still make it so fun and funky that it doesn’t matter what allegiance you address. This stuff rocks. And, amazingly, it’s just as timely now as it was back when it was originally released in 1973.

A saxophonist who became arguably Cameroon’s most successful musician ever, Manu Dibango became the international face of the African dance genre Makossa when his single “Soul Makossa” became a surprise US hit in the early 1970s. The song became a major influence on the nascent disco scene, and has now been canonized by some as the first song in the genre.
Manu sadly succumbed to covid19 & passed away on 24th March 2020. His legacy will live on.
