Description

Following last year’s 50th anniversary deluxe reissues of Mona Bone Jakon and Tea for the Tillerman, Teaser and the Firecat will be given the deluxe reissue treatment in various editions.

With its frequently gentle melodies, alternately romantic and socially aware lyrics, and varied arrangements (including bouzouki and Caribbean flavors), Teaser vaulted Stevens to the forefront of the singer-songwriter movement. Both “Peace Train” and “Morning Has Broken” went top 10 on the U.S. Pop chart and topped the Adult Contemporary survey, with the latter inspiring covers from an array of artists including Johnny Mathis and Floyd Cramer. “Moonshadow” fared almost as well, reaching the top 30 in the U.S. and U.K. and No. 10 AC. It would inspire covers from the eclectic likes of Roger Whittaker and Labelle and much later provide the basis of a musical. Other songs from Teaser went on to have further lives, too. “The Wind” has appeared in films including Cameron Crowe’s Almost Famous and Wes Anderson’s Rushmore. The LP made an impact throughout the world, including in Australia where it became the biggest-selling album of 1972.
The 2-CD version has 13 bonus tracks. David Hefti has remixed Teaser and the Firecat and it’s been mastered at Abbey Road Studios under the supervision of original album producer Paul Samwell-Smith.
