Last September, Leeds-based four-piece Wild Beasts announced their amicable split. Last Night All My Dreams Came True, their final album, was recorded last summer at RAK Studios in London and released the weekend of their farewell gig. And with it, they go out on a thoroughly engaging high: a live in the studio, Boy King-heavy stroll through some of their big-hitters recorded at RAK in London over two days last summer.
In particular, the songs that fare best are ones they have road-tested for years – tracks from 2009’s Two Dancers remain brilliantly romantic and grotesque. In any case, pressed together, it becomes apparent how pleasurably the band’s entire discography has crystallized. More engaging and more thoughtful than a standard best-of, Last Night All My Dreams Came True is a rousing goodbye from one of the most acclaimed bands of their generation.
