Description

An illuminating new documentary film directed by Andrew Slater that explores the beginnings of the Laurel Canyon music scene (1965 -1967) through the stories of those who lived it, and the artists who carry its influence to this day. Accompanied by a star-studded soundtrack celebrating the music of that era, it’s a look at a moment in time that has lasted in our collective consciousness.

Narrator Jakob Dylan uncovers never-before-heard personal details behind the bands and their songs and how that music continues to inspire today, through candid conversations and performances from seminal artists of the time (Brian Wilson, Ringo Starr, Michelle Phillips, Eric Clapton, Stephen Stills, David Crosby, Graham Nash, Roger McGuinn and Jackson Browne) as well as contemporary musicians they influenced such as Tom Petty (in his very last film interview), Beck, Fiona Apple, Cat Power, Regina Spektor and Norah Jones.

The soundtrack features new studio recordings of timeless songs by The Byrds, The Mamas & The Papas and more, as interpreted by Jakob Dylan, along with plenty from artists from the film including Fiona Apple, Beck, Jade Castrinos, Cat Power, Eric Clapton, Norah Jones, Regina Spektor, Stephen Stills, and Neil Young.

Echo in the Canyon is a perfect title in how it represents the ways in which the inspiration shared by these bands continues to reverberate through the art form, the industry and cultures not limited to America.
