Kevin Parker’s fourth album has a relaxed groove & bright melodies.
As with his previous albums, Parker has mostly relied on himself to write, perform and produce the music. It is layered with tremendous attention to detail. “It Might Be Time” places semi-joking verses about encroaching middle age in an artfully mixed psych-rock setting, a sharp reminder of Parker’s former days of guitar-wizardry. Proof of his expanded stylistic palette comes with the house music chords and Daft Punk synth riffs that make repeat appearances in songs. The carefully designed production doesn’t grow static or suffocating. There are subtle shifts in volume and emphasis, a constant sense of animation.
