Description

The singer, who found fame in the late 90s as one of the four siblings who made up the Irish pop-folk group The Corrs, and who now lives in Madrid, Spain, suffered the loss of a parent and the break up of her marriage within a relatively short period.  Whilst healing, she remained near her piano “all day long” to capture the outpouring of songs she found herself writing.  There is an honesty that bleeds throughout the album – which charts her journey in a manner that feels free-flowing.

The arrangements, particularly in the first half of the album, bounce between genres, with subtle nods to her Celtic folk-pop roots. But Sharon is at her most convincing in the LP’s quieter moments, when the production and instrumentation is stripped back, particularly on the gently jazz-influenced ‘Lend Me Your Shoulder’. The classic singer-songwriter inspirations are also notable, with ‘My Beautiful’ sounding like it was taken directly from the Joni Mitchell songbook.  (And ironically the album was produced by Joni’s ex husband & long-time producer LARRY KLEIN).
