Description

The Ronettes icon Ronnie Spector will release her first album of new material since 2006 this spring. The singer’s 1960s British-themed English Heart comprises her takes on songs from the era, which she handpicked. It includes her renditions of songs originally performed by the Kinks (“Tired of Waiting”), the Animals (“Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood”), the Beatles (“I’ll Follow the Sun”) and Gerry & the Pacemakers (“Don’t Let the Sun Catch You Crying”). Her Sixties and British music focus pays homage to a pivotal time for the Ronettes and Spector. “I’ll never forget my first impressions of England in that winter of ’64. I’d never traveled outside the U.S. before,” she said in a statement. “To arrive at Heathrow and be welcomed by those kids was an amazing feeling. We’d never had fans waiting at an airport to greet us.” January 1964 was also the time that “Be My Baby” was storming the UK charts.
