This Melbourne trio take their name from a Louisiana town, Opelousas and the band retain the swampy blues of Opelousas the town, on this debut album, where rawness, rhythm and riffs are never in short supply.
A keen love of the music of the deep south drew together three of Melbourne’s top blues artists to form the group Opelousas. The band comprises the female powerhouse combo of KERRI SIMPSON and ALISON FERRIER, backed by drummer ANTHONY SHORTTE (from Collard Greens and Gravy). Their debut album was co-produced by maestro JEFF LANG, with powerful results.
Kerri Simpson and Alison Ferrier handle guitar and vocal duties here, and their powerful combination combined with the expertise from Anthony Shortte behind the drum kit make this first album from Opelousas a must for fans of all things blues related.
The Opelousas’ debut is blues focused yet carries enough variety to keep it fresh throughout, and is chockablock with rhythms that get right into the bloodstream.
Opelousas were Winners of BEST BLUES ALBUM for ‘Opelousified’ at the 2019 Victorian Music Awards.
