To commemorate their recent tour of Oz & truly spectacular shows….comes this collection of vocal & instrumental tracks with some country and rockabilly tunes, a couple of covers of Aussie classics (if you count Heartbreaker since it comes from the Bee Gees’ pen, also the great Friday on My Mind by The Easybeats; here just an instrumental Los Straitjackets read).
Lowe is in fine voice, has his pencil still (forever) sharpened and Los Straitjackets create a surf rock-meets-country vibe, The Ventures via The Crickets, or vice versa. Blue on Blue is probably the standout vocal track – Trombone has an almost Trini Lopez-meets-Neil Diamond feel to it. And the beachy, tequila-downing daze of the Straitjackets’ instrumental run through of (What’s So Funny ‘Bout) Peace, Love and Understanding is both hilarious and heartwarming.
