GUITAR MUSIC – Nick Charles
Melbourne based performer, Nick Charles has spent the last 30 years honing his melodic fingerpicking style and writing skills. As the ultimate travelling troubadour he constantly negotiates the musical highways throughout Australia, New Zealand, Europe, the UK and USA. His music encompasses an eclectic mix of acoustic roots, including blues, folk and early ragtime, pre-war jazz, Delta and Piedmont.
Guitar Music is Nick’s 9th solo release and features trademark melodic roots oriented guitar instrumentals, nods to acoustic blues pioneers and folk blues songwriting of the highest calibre. The album was finished as the pandemic took hold and therefore is only now appearing in the world.
Much of the music reflects Nick’s touring around this country and of course his many tours of the US. The music was beautifully recorded at Toyland Studios in Melbourne and thoughtfully mastered by David Briggs (LRB).
Some of the fan favourites include a stellar version of Santo and Johnny’s classic “Sleepwalk”, a knockout rendition of the fingerpicker’s anthem “Anji”, John Fahey’s chestnut “The Last Steam Engine Train” and Duane Allman’s sublime “Little Martha”.
All in all it’s a seriously essential addition to any acoustic lover’s collection.
