Like his first solo of a decade ago (Go), Shiver has some truly gorgeous moments, tucked in amongst the denser more heavily electronic & sometimes discordant material. Here the artist works restlessly at large-scale sonic tapestries that are full of contradictions – the dance, the hymm, the pop song, the chamber orchestra suite all bundled into complicated celebrations. Like These New Puritans, Jónsi plays with orchestral beauty and flirts with pop, and ends up somewhere in between, fascinating and inscrutable. Admittedly not always the easiest of listens…but extremely rewarding nevertheless!
