Description

Here we capture Joni Mitchell’s performances at a benefit gig in Berkley, California on Labour Day weekend 1978. The undoubted highlights are the embryonic versions of ‘The Chair In The Sky’ and ‘Goodbye Pork Pie Hat’ (both destined to appear on her 1979 album Mingus). For these Joni calls on her good friend Herbie Hancock and the resulting duets are essential listening for fans of both artists. There are also two very different acapella versions of ‘The Dry Cleaner From Des Moines’ and solo renditions of ‘The Wolf That Lives In Lindsey’ and ‘Furry Sings The Blues’.

The version of her classic ‘Circle Game’ is taken from the closing encore of the event and features The Persuasions, Tim Hardin, Tom Paxton and Odetta. Every performance by Joni Mitchell is an important event but those present at the Greek Theatre in 1978 witnessed something truly unique. Professionally re-mastered WBUR-FM radio broadcast, complete with liner notes and archival imagery.
