Description

“A few years back I had resigned myself to the fact that my days as a recording artist were probably over.”

So begin the sleeve notes to Jason Ringenberg’s new album Stand Tall. So, what changed? It turns out that spending a month in isolation as artist-in-residence at Sequoia National Park in northern California does wonders for your songwriting. Mixing solo acoustic and full band, songs such as “John the Baptist was a Real Humdinger” and “God Bless the Ramones” refer to his pioneering cowpunk past, while “Here in the Sequoias” and “John Muir Stood Here” submit to the beauty and heritage of the locale where he wrote the album.

Merging these styles together makes for a very welcome return to the fray. The breadth of genres on this album, the confidence in juxtaposing punk, instrumentals and country proves that Jason Ringenberg is still a pioneer and can comfortably stand tall amongst his peers.
