Rock icon, Jackson Browne has announced his first new album in six years, Downhill From Everywhere

“On the surface, it’s about living in L.A.,” Browne said in a press release. “But it’s really a metaphor for life itself. I adore this city, but I’ve been trying to leave since around the time I finished my first album. You can love and appreciate and depend on a life as you know it, but deep down you may also long for something else, even if you don’t know what it is.”

Almost five decades since his debut LP, Jackson Browne’s songwriting sustains the soulful intimacy of his earliest work, strengthened by the power and wisdom of life experience.  A press release describes the songs as “tailor-made for these turbulent times.”

“‘Downhill From Everywhere’ is fueled by a search—for connection, for purpose, for self—but there’s a heightened sense of urgency written between the lines, a recognition of the sand slipping through the hourglass that elevates the stakes at every turn.”

Album opener Still Looking For Something is classic soft-rock in traditional Browne mode and attests to his ever-questing nature.  Contemp. alt/americana star Phoebe Bridgers guests.  Another joint venture, The Dreamer features Eugene Rodriguez of traditional Mexican group Los Cenzontles.
As ever, Browne leavens his harder-edged songs with gentler fare. The Caribbean-flavoured, Haiti-inspired Love Is Love has a distinct hint of Paul Simon to it.
