Glasgow-born singer Fiona Ross has secured her reputation as a gifted interpreter of traditional Scots songs and ballads. She was shortlisted for Scots Singer of the Year in the 2019 MG Alba Scots Trad Music Awards

Nowadays, Fiona flies the flag for the Scots song tradition here in her adopted home of Australia. In addition to her performances as an unaccompanied singer, for the past couple of years Fiona has collaborated with ARIA award-winning guitarist Shane O’Mara.

Fiona Ross & Shane O’Mara are delighted to announce the release of their debut album as a duo: Sunwise Turn. This album of traditional Scots song features many of the songs they have been performing together at major festivals across Australia, along with other songs from Fiona’s established repertoire. The album is voice and acoustic guitar – replicating their live performance.  Fiona’s is an extraordinary voice, evocative & she so beautifully interprets these wonderful traditional songs, whilst Shane’s acoustic guitar virtuosity is a perfect accompaniment …..his playing is just so good and sympatico as he weaves his magic around Fiona’s sublime vocals…

Sharing a passion for the Scots song tradition

Fiona was mentored by renowned traditional singer and piper Andrew Hunter, and brings knowledge, passion & commitment to her performance. Her grounded, evocative singing style and extensive repertoire showcase the richness, depth and diversity of the Scots song tradition
