Description

Since the demise of Eurythmics, co-frontperson Dave Stewart has had his hand in many pies, ranging from session work to full-on production gigs, but perhaps none as fully realized as his latest outing, a team-up with Louisiana soulster Thomas Lindsey. Stewart found Lindsey when the latter sent him a vocal sample via Twitter: “You know, I’ve been doing this awhile, and I’ve worked with lots of amazing singers,” said Stewart. “There are so many singers and so many songs over the Internet, and it’s become a whole lot of noise. But every now and then, there’s a blip. As soon as I heard Thomas, I went, ‘OK, he goes among the greatest singers.”

And that’s the first thing you notice upon hearing any of the twelve tracks off Spitballin’: that voice. Lindsey can go from delta blues to torch singer in a heartbeat and amaze you each time. With his sharp, stinging near-feminine voice, Lindsay means business and that’s all anyone can ask for. Spitballin’ is a rocking Southern time, far more than the sum of its parts, and a very impressive collaboration from a newcomer and a veteran.
