Description

The Danny Walsh Banned return to their country-soul roots with their third album, “In the Wimmera,” out now on CD and LP. The diverse six-piece is well-known in Melbourne’s bars and clubs for their ‘rock ’n’ roll infused ’70s boogie and high-energy live shows.

Danny, who is originally from Donald (Victoria) on the edge of the Wimmera, describes the new album as a “romanced notion about growing up in the country”. His song writing explores the duality of life amidst the Wimmera’s broadacre fields and his early adulthood among Melbourne’s city streets. Each track paints a vivid picture of bush landscapes, the urban jungle and the characters and stories found within – some of them fictional, some of them real. There’s a seedy blow-in, a lost mate, a cousin’s wedding, a secret armed resistance during the Great Depression…and more.

Recorded in Melbourne by Nao Anzai at Soundpark and Rolling Stock Recording Rooms, “In the Wimmera” traverses heavy blues, Irish folk, soulful country, rock’n’roll and wigged-out Australiana.
