Description

Cage & Aviary is the much-anticipated debut album from London-based songwriter and vocalist Bryony Jarman-Pinto. Written over the course of three years, the album ties personal reflection to wider social issues, giving an intimate insight in to what it means to come of age in today’s world.

Bryony’s vocals have total freedom, and are duly delivered without strain or stretch – the sign of a truly fine singer. The cohesiveness of the sound she is able to craft with the help of the musicians around her is a joy to experience. The luscious “For The Birds” kicks the album off beautifully as she sings over jazzy and stunningly beautiful percussion and guitar leads.  “Emerge” and “Threads” similarly have some incredible soulful and textured melodies, with keys and guitar leads interlocking to great effect.

The album’s production is a case in point for “less is more”, never intruding on Bryony’s voice, which has an intangible timbre akin to a only very small number of singers around today. She needs little accompaniment – and so the record is built around her vocals. Sophistication and restraint is the name of the game. Contemplations on life, love, individuality and global issues are brought to life with harmonious jazz, soul and folk – a melodic sound that has charmed many and is sure to charm many more in this artist’s bright future. Beautiful!
