Description

The seed of an idea formed in the pre-dawn cold of a Sunday morning at The Port Fairy Folk Festival in March 2006. Long-time compadres, mutual admirers and gun-slingers, the very compatible Dave Steele and Bill Chambers to combine for a run of city and country shows in Victoria. A pair of grizzled road-dogs, swapping songs, yarns and guitar smarts. Who could resist? Venues and dates were matched. Word came from the US of A that Audrey Auld was on her way. Serendipitous. As third piece in the puzzle, Audrey was a no-brainer. Big warmth, humour and a presence and personality like no other. Perfect. The shows worked a treat. Great sounds, audiences, fun and sympatico. Meeniyan Hall is a gig lovingly curated by Ian Bevington and Suzanne Henderson. Sound and production of the highest order courtesy of Jim Gallagher and Mal Holt – Mal’s deft touch at the desk has left us with a fine record of that night just over 10 years ago. The music has survived. Sadly, Audrey has not. Her loss in 2015 has left a gaping void. The night she, Bill and Dave shared with several hundred at Meeniyan on September 30, 2006, is all the more poignant because of this. Play it loud. Be happy. And a shout out to the big American at the back of the hall.
