James Ellis – Live In-Store Friday 22 Feb

James Ellis and the Jealous Guys are one of Melbourne’s best-loved country and honky tonk bands. In 2018, they released their debut record It Ain’t Texas (But It Ain’t Bad), which won ‘Best Country Album’ at The Age Music Victoria Awards. In the same year they also played their first US shows with an appearance at AmericanaFest and other Nashville venues such as Honky Tonk Tuesdays at the Americana Legion Post 82 and the 5 Spot.

Since the start of 2018, the group has also been co-hosting a weekly honky-tonk and western swing residency at the Rooks Return in Fitzroy which has become the go-to regular two-step gig in Melbourne. This show will be a scaled down version of the band.

“James Ellis is at the forefront of the next generation of country music.” – Double J Radio

“James Ellis and the Jealous Guys, a rollicking, rag-tag collection of Melbourne veterans … owes as much to the honkytonk homeliness of Jerry Lee and country classicism of Merle Haggard as it does to anything of a more modernist bent.” – Rhythms magazine
