HEARTBROKERS Friday 29th November @ 12.45

When Jeff Lang and Van Walker met, they were more surprised to share a love of AC/DC than Bob Dylan, and thought it fun to usurp expectations with an original album more of the former than the latter. Thus the Heartbrokers were born in a single recording session a few summers ago on a day hotter than a blue movie (48 degrees!) With original songs by Van & Cal Walker (plus the Don Nix classic Goin’ Down) the collection (now known as VOL. 1O ) is a heady brew of rasp and rhythm from Van Walker, the sweet soaring bv’s and sublime guitar of Jeff Lang, pounding piano courtesy of The Tamworth Tornado: Ezra Lee, pumpin’ bass and melody of Brother Cal and killer kit work of Mr Ash Davies, as well as the mighty brass section of Jack Howard, Will Morrissey & James MacCauley. File under: Uniquely Australian Full Tilt “boogie par excellence”.

Heartbrokers are launching their long-awaited album VOL. 10 on December 6 at The Spotted Mallard, Sydney Rd Brunswick, with Mr Teenage and The Ezra Lee Show (featuring Red Rivers in his first live appearance in a decade!) The album confounds pigeonholing with it’s broad range of genre influences. Think early Bob Seger with a sprinkle of Tom Petty, Heartbrokers defy categorisation other than good, old-fashioned, boogie and blues-based rock and roll.
